The IRU is currently in search of a part time Physical Therapy Assistant. The Physical Therapy Assistant is responsible for and provides physical therapy interventions of the highest quality to patients in the IRU under the supervision and direction of the physical therapist of record. These interventions include such modalities as exercise, tissue mobilization, fitting, adjusting, and training patients in the use and care of orthopedic braces, prostheses, and supportive devices, such as bandages, crutches, canes, walkers, and wheelchairs. The Physical Therapy Assistant, with the approval of the supervising or treating physical therapist, identifies resources and/or suggests referrals, as appropriate. The Physical Therapist Assistant teaches patients and their caregivers in an individual or group setting. The Physical Therapy Assistant collaborates with other departments and clinical staff including nursing, medical staff, and other therapists to facilitate problem solving and coordination of services. The Physical Therapy Assistant observes patients during treatments and documents data on patients' responses to treatments and progress in order to report orally or in writing to the physical therapist of record. Additionally, the Physical Therapy Assistant must demonstrate competency in identified areas of specialization, including training for age specific groups, and competency in applying the principles, methods, materials, and equipment necessary in providing physical therapy. The Physical Therapy Assistant must have the ability to understand and follow directions given by the physical therapist and have excellent communication and interpersonal skills. In addition to the above stated items, this employee must understand and follow policies and procedures of the department and demonstrate compliance with accreditation and regulatory compliance requirements. The Physical Therapy Assistant shall also demonstrate accountability for, and contribution to, program development, quality improvement, problem solving, and productivity enhancement in a flexible interdisciplinary fashion. The Physical Therapy Assistant shall also assist with any and all other duties as assigned.
· Must have demonstrated track record of effective collaboration with care team members of all disciplines and ability to function optimally as a member of an interdisciplinary team.
· Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, patients, family members, and visitors.
· Strong communication skills including the ability to communicate in a positive and effective manner, verbally and in writing.
· Basic computer skills and word processing skills.
· AS necessary to obtain CA physical therapy assistant license.
· Physical Therapist Assistant license issued by the Physical Therapy Board of California
· American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS certification
· Functional Independence Measure (FIM) competency must be met within 90 days of hire
· and retested every six months.
· FIM certification must be obtained within one year of hire and renewed every two years.
