The Critical Care Zone Educator reports directly to the Director of Educational Services. S/he is responsible for providing formal and informal education programs for the staff of ICU/CCU, MP, and THI with planning assistance from the Management Team of the respective departments. The Critical Care Zone Educator possesses a broad scope of knowledge and skills to facilitate improved patient outcomes and improved staff performance in the clinical setting. The Critical Care Zone Educator possesses the skills and knowledge to competently provide the appropriate services to patients and staff.
The Zone Educator is assigned to an RN patient care role on a routine basis to maintain bedside clinical skill set, competencies, staff nurse perspective, and stay in tune with the educational needs of the staff/departments served.
Important dimensions of this position consist of quality of care, professional commitment, teamwork, interpersonal skills, safety, good public/customer relations and a broad nursing knowledge.
No less than 3 years in the last 5 years of critical care experience and experience in formal and informal teaching of adult learners in critical care.
Minimum of BSN or currently enrolled in formal BSN program or enrolled in courses that can be applied to completion of formal BSN program. MSN preferred. Membership in nursing professional organization related to assigned area of nursing preferred. Must pass the CHOMP Basic Arrhythmia Interpretation and Treatment test at 85% prior to completion of orientation and independent assignment, then annually.
State of California RN license required. American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS is required. ACLS and PALS certification must be obtained prior to completion of orientation and independent assignment. CSC certification preferred. Specialty certification related to assigned area of nursing (e.g. CCRN, PCCN, or other critical care specialty) completed within 18 months of hire/transfer into position.
