The Oncology Nurse Practitioner reports to the Director of the Comprehensive Cancer Center, in consultation with the Director of Advance Practice Clinicians. The NP provides direct care to patients undergoing inpatient and outpatient cancer care. The NP will be responsible for supervising outpatient infusions, injections as well as other forms of treatment as ordered by staff physicians. Position works collaboratively with members of the nursing and medical staff, to enhance the continuity of care for patients with multiple medical problems; providing direct care to this group of patients. Also maintains registered nurse competencies by possessing the skills and knowledge to competently provide appropriate patient care.
The Nurse Practitioner (NP) functions under general Nurse Practitioner Standardized Procedure approved by the Interdisciplinary Practice Committee (CIDP), and provides routine care and management of the patient with acute and chronic complaints in collaboration with the supervising physician and through implementation of standardized procedures. The NP possesses skills and knowledge to competently provide excellent patient care, offer a high level of compassion, patience, and subject matter expertise. The NP will also educate patients and families in terms of services provided by the hospital and community resources when appropriate.
Demonstrated teaching, leadership, and critical thinking skills are essential. Clinical background in cancer management is required. Minimum of 2 years of recent NP experience working with Hematology/Oncology patients. Excellent communication and leadership skills, as well as organizational, analytical, written and presentation skills. Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint applications is preferred.
As necessary for required licensures. Master's Degree in Nursing and relevant Nurse Practitioner training certification preferred.
Current California RN licensure and authorization as a nurse practitioner required. Certified by a recognized national certifying body that has established standards for nurse practitioners. Furnishing license issued by the Board of Registered Nursing required. At a minimum, ONS/ONCC Chemotherapy Biotherapy Certificate required, AOCNP or AOCN certification preferred. American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS certification required.
