Job Description:

Instructor for Advanced Med-Surg/Geriatrics

Under the leadership of the department director, assistant director, nursing supervisor, and/or charge nurse, the registered nurse is responsible and accountable for planning directing, assessing and providing nursing care according to the policies and procedures of the hospital and department. Important dimensions of this position consist of quality of care, professional commitment, teamwork, interpersonal skills, safety, good public/customer relations and a broad nursing knowledge.

             

The Maurine Church Coburn School of Nursing (MCCSN) Instructor reports to the MCCSN Director and assists in the planning, organization, and implementation of the nursing school curriculum. The Instructor possesses a broad scope of knowledge and skills to provide nursing school instruction and maintains expertise through teaching, service, clinical practice, and/or scholarship.  The instructor is a registered nurse whose responsibilities include instruction in the classroom, clinical, and/or lab setting. Must abide by the Instructor Responsibilities outlined in the Monterey Peninsula College Faculty Handbook and the MCCSN Student Handbook.

Experience:

At least one year full time or equivalent experience during the past 5 years in the practice of professional nursing, providing direct patient care in the designated nursing area; or at least 1 academic year of RN-level clinical teaching experience in the designated nursing area; AND at least one year's experience teaching courses related to registered nursing. Must exhibit professional, calm, and critical-thinking behaviors, and the ability to multi-task and interact appropriately and supportively with students and colleagues in the learning process. Demonstrates continued expertise in assigned areas through teaching, service, clinical practice, and/or scholarship. Formal or informal teaching experience with nursing students essential.

Education:

Graduate of a school of nursing or equivalent. Master of Science or higher degree in Nursing with coursework in nursing education or administration or the minimum educational requirements set forth in CCR 1425 (BSN).

Licensure/Certification:

State of California RN license required. American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS (required). National certification in clinical specialty, simulation and/or nursing education strongly preferred.
