Position Summary

The Wound and Ostomy Patient Educator reports directly to the Director of Wound Healing Hyperbaric Medicine. S/he is responsible for providing patient education to inpatients. The Wound Patient Educator possesses a broad scope of knowledge and skills to provide education to facilitate patient self-care management, multi-level effective communication with providers and multi-disciplinary members to promote coordination of care, education and discharge during admission. Serves as a resource and as a consultative support for wound, ostomy and tracheostomy patients. Collaborates with multidisciplinary members to assess patient needs for nursing care, patient/family education and other services. Coaches and assists team members to ensure optimum wound, ostomy and trach care and efficient use of resources. Integrates knowledge of age and developmental specific care, institutional goals and standards, current best practice standards, WOC Nurses Society standards.

Experience

Two years acute care RN nursing experience in the last five years; nursing experience in two or more clinical areas; formal and informal teaching experience. Ability to cultivate relationships within all departments, exhibit integrity and initiative, and is poised, mature, and professional. Ability to prioritize easily and quickly. Communicates with discretion: confidently and effectively with superiors, peers, and subordinates. Is a vital member of the team with the understanding that covering sick calls and time off requests within the department is a team responsibility.

Preferences: Exhibits genuine interest, enthusiasm, passion and dedication of learning and teaching opportunities.  Keeps abreast of the latest scientific, health-related literature, and evidenced-based practice.  Displays impressive ability to articulate knowledge and ideas.

Education

Bachelor’s in nursing preferred.

Licensure/Certifications

State of California RN license required.

American Hospital Association Healthcare Provider BLS certification required.

Certified Wound Specialist (CWS) and/or Wound, Ostomy, and Continence Nursing (WOCN) certifications preferred.

Assigned Work Hours:

Per diem - hours vary. Average 2-3 shifts per week to include a weekend day. Minimum 2 shifts per pay period.

Position Type:

Pay Range (based on years of applicable experience):

$78.20

to

$104.53

The hours employees work determine when a shift differential is paid.

Hourly Evening Shift Differential: $5.50

Hourly Night Shift Differential: $8.00
