Job Description:

Under the leadership of the department director, assistant director, and phlebotomy supervisor, the CPT is responsible for obtaining and processing (as applicable) blood and body fluid specimens from patients in all age ranges in both inpatient and outpatient environments. Enters and retrieves data in laboratory and hospital information systems. Guides, trains, and may provide mentoring to students and/or trainees. Maintains the highest standards of conduct and professionalism in customer service, appearance, and attitude. Uses best judgment in all interactions with patients, medical staff, and team members. Maintains patient confidentiality according to applicable laws and regulations. Performs other related duties as assigned. Reports to Phlebotomy Supervisor.

Experience:

Basic computer data entry and edit skills are required. English language proficiency in reading, writing, and verbal communication is required. Well developed customer service, teamwork, and critical thinking skills are required. One year previous phlebotomy experience within the last 3 years is preferred.

Additional computer skills in Word and Excel preferred.

Education:

High school diploma, G.E.D., or equivalent work experience in related field preferred.

Licensure/Certifications:

Must have a valid California certificate as CPT I or CPT II. American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS certification is required.

Other:

For CPT’s in assignments that require driving, CA driver’s license and the following are required: automobile insurance as required by the state of California with an acceptable driving record of three points or less, participation in the DMV pull-notice program, and an automobile available for daily work.

Assigned Work Hours:

0.9 FTE, varied shifts (primarily am) with weekend and holiday rotations

Pay Range (based on years of applicable experience):

$31.11

to

$41.59

The hours employees work determine when a shift differential is paid.

Hourly Evening Shift Differential: $2.12

Hourly Night Shift Differential: $3.18
