Under the leadership of the department director and assistant director the patient access supervisor is responsible for managing resources to assure quality customer service, acceptable standards for productivity, quality assurance and compliance. S/he possesses knowledge and skills to optimize processes, interpret and meet current regulations, define and document processes and procedures, interact effectively for problem resolution, define goals and provide skill development and positive leadership. The supervisor is responsible for monitoring the overall work performance of assigned staff. S/he is the liaison between Patient Access and the hospital departments for functions associated with check-in, pre registration, admissions, discharges and transfers.

Experience:

Five years experience in a medical office, hospital access or hospital revenue cycle department is required. Must have working knowledge of medical/hospital office functions, procedures, reimbursement (including contract interpretation and application of discounts), registration requirements, medical/hospital office personnel policies, medical terminology, government regulations and managed care concepts. Must have knowledge and experience with elements of coding; two years of coding experience preferred. Demonstrates an overall understanding of scheduling/admitting/registration and revenue cycle. Working knowledge of Office software, including Power Point, Excel and Word. Has the ability to transfer knowledge to staff and subordinates. Prior personnel supervisory experience is required. Understanding of hospital charging practices, including charge master set up and interpretation is preferred. Demonstrated ability in problem solving, organization and interpersonal communication. Demonstrated ability to maintain a positive professional demeanor in a demanding environment. Ability to work independently and to produce excellent work.

Education:

High school diploma, G.E.D., or equivalent work experience in related field. Relevant course work above and beyond high school is preferred.

Licensure/Certification:

Certified Healthcare Access Manager (CHAM) is preferred.
