Position Summary:

Under the leadership of the department director, the manager collaborates with the director in planning, goal setting, developing department budgets, and coordinating supplies/equipment, staffing, and care/service to carry out the department's responsibilities in an efficient and effective manner in conjunction with and support of Community Hospital's strategic plan.

The manager is responsible and accountable for assigned tasks such as supervising the department's daily operations, including but not limited to, being a resource and role model to staff for problem resolution with issues with patient care, service delivery, safety, supplies, equipment, computer software, and customer concerns.

The manager ensures staff have the appropriate orientation/training and competence for the care/service provided and that all staff adhere to Exceeding Expectations standards for professional conduct. This is achieved through supportive training, coaching, developing, evaluating staff performance, policy/procedure enforcement, and corrective action, if necessary.

The manager plays a major role in supporting quality initiatives through ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, collection and analysis of quality and performance improvement data, assisting with development of future performance improvement targets and quality initiatives, and development or revision of department policies and procedures, as needed.

The manager supports financial viability with attention on expenses, revenue, utilization and productivity in assigned cost centers, and tactical execution of Lean concepts.

The manager provides clinical leadership and expertise within the palliative care clinical team and will also work in a clinical role, inpatient and community based under a general Nurse Practitioner Standardized Procedure approved by the Interdisciplinary Practice Committee (CIDP.) The manager nurse practitioner (NP) provides routine care and management of the patient with acute and chronic complaints, in collaboration with the supervising physician and through implementation of standardized procedures. The NP possesses skills and knowledge to competently provide excellent patient care, offers a high level of compassion and comfort discussing end-of-life issues and pain and symptom management to develop the patient's plan of care.

Experience:

Must have a minimum of two years of experience in palliative care. Two years of management experience in an acute care hospital, health system, comparable health setting or a strong leadership role that supports the manager traits as described in the position summary is required. Demonstrated strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills is required.

Education:

As required for state of CA license as an RN and certified nurse practitioner.

Licensure/Certification:

Current RN licensure and a registered professional nurse who is authorized by California to practice as a nurse practitioner in accordance with California law and be certified as a nurse practitioner by a recognized a national certifying body that has established standards for nurse practitioners. A furnishing license issued by the Board of Registered Nursing and a current DEA number from the United States Drug Enforcement Administration for schedule II-IV controlled substances is required. American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS is required. Palliative Care certification required. Current valid driver's license and functional transportation are required.
